about

My cousin was nearly killed one night in Chicago, attacked by somebody while walking out side of a bar (case continues to unresolved). I'm happy to say that he's alive and well today, but it was a very long time of recovery and a miracle that he's OK. I wrote this song the day after this happened, and the lyrics fell into place as the months went by.

lyrics

Who cut you down outside the bar?
With a steel blue pipe beneath his arm?
It's been almost thirteen weeks gone by
Who cut you down and left you cold?
Making good on bets that you had blown
Cutting through the flesh they had sewn
It was just last night they checked you in
Wiped you down and threw your blues away
Baby hold on
It's just too much
You hangin' on
Baby don't go
You're just too strong
They had a gun
And now you're done
Watch yourself
the spotlight turns you on
Fly too high, it's sure to bring you down
Wallflowers die someday, you know
But you can wait, you can wait
You can wait a little longer
You were always certain weren't you boy
Who could burn your blue eyes
Bear the brunt
It's been almost 13 weeks gone by
Who cut you down and left you cold?
Baby hold on
It's just too much
You hangin' on
Baby don't go
You're just too strong
They had a gun
Now you're done hangin' on
